Haere mai to all our school family/whanau and friends!

Our week has been busy and productive and, for most of the time, we have been bathed in beautiful sunshine. It is great to see the children outside playing games during their break times and also being able to participate fully in their fitness and physical education learning activities.

Our PTFA met on Monday night and are planning a children’s disco, a “knowledge-athon”, and a quiz night for next term. They have had a successful chocolate fundraiser and thank you to all who supported this. Through funds raised, a giant chess set will be bought for the playground and the cost of Mathletics for families is much less because it is being subsidised with PTFA funds. A major project this year is the upgrading of the hall sound system and data projector, likely to be in the vicinity of $20 000.  If you haven’t already ordered an Entertainment Book, now is a very good time to buy one for yourself and your mother – for Mother’s Day!

Our school feastday was celebrated on Tuesday with Mass, a shared lunch and tabloid sports, organised and run by our Senior students. No doubt, some photos, and possibly some video clips will be appearing in another section in our online school newsletter.

Team Three’s Assembly (Rooms 1-6) led very ably by Room 2 (Miss Luxon’s class of  Years 5 & 6 children),amongst other things,  gave us a glimpse of what it was like to be in the Anzac Parade, enabled us to see and hear the great progress Mrs Bon’s beginner guitar class have made this year and likewise to be excited to see how much those 66 children have learned,  when the J-Rock troupe, trained by Ms Iskandar and Ms Elliott,  performed for us.

On Thursday night, the BOT and I hosted a consultation evening for our Middle Eastern familes. We were delighted that quite a number were able to come along or send apologies, and look forward to an even greater turnout next time. We are so fortunate in our school to have the richness provided by our many cultures and we have so much to learn from each other. Have a look out in the school foyer for the Map of the Middle East and the names and photos of our families, who come from that region. Could those families who haven’t yet supplied a photo, think about doing so, please? It can be emailed to valentinaa@sj.school.nz or dropped off at the school office.

Have a lovely weekend.

Ka kite ano!

God bless!

Phil O’Connell-Cooper
