#L2L Learning to Learn at St Joseph’s
Modern Learning Environments
A reminder to all that you are very welcome to attend one of the parent information meetings next week on the building programme and modern learning environments. They are being held in the staffroom at 7.30 on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd September.
The following is nothing new to most of you but a timely reminder to all about what makes St Joseph’s what it is. The core of who we are, what we stand for and what we hold dear does not change. However, we do respond to changing times and needs and have a culture of continuous growth and improvement.

GOAL 1 – Special Character
To ensure that the Catholic faith is integral to everything the school community does; to inspire children to love God and to love learning; to celebrate and keep alive the spirit of mercy (Tika – Justice, Pono – Truth, Aroha – Compassion, Manaakitanga – Hospitality, Tapu – Respect for the Environment) and the links with the Sisters of Mercy and to know and celebrate the School’s history.
GOAL 2 – Curriculum To provide high quality learning programmes that enable students to attain their full potential and foster high achievement. These are based on the school’s commitment to the Catholic faith, concept-based integrated learning, the development of the Key Competencies and responding to the goals of the National Curriculum Framework. Progress and achievement in Literacy and Mathematics are measured in relation to the National Standards. Students will have ownership of their learning and understand what they need to do in their learning in order to achieve.
From the School Information Book:
It is the school’s intention that all staff work together to deliver a rich and relevant curriculum which meets the needs of the learners in today’s world and reflects “best practice” in education. For this reason, teaching and learning programmes are constantly reviewed and refined.
Teachers are continually involved in professional learning and there is a strong commitment to provide quality Catholic education for the children. A high emphasis is placed on literacy and numeracy teaching, as skills learned in these areas underpin most school based learning.
The Key Competencies are integrated into all aspects of living and Learning at St Joseph’s.

This week 4 teams of Rippa Rugby Teams competed in a Rippa Rugby with one team reaching the semi-finals. Thank you to Mrs Mahuru, Mrs O’Brien and the wonderful band of parents who coached, managed and cheered on the teams.
Rooms 3 & 4 celebrated a beautiful Mass on the feast of the Queen ship of Mary, with their families, Father Elric and their teachers and Room 9 celebrated their liturgy focused on Baptism with their parents and grandparents.
Prayers are asked for the repose of the soul of Maurice Boland who, over many years, through his work on the Diocesan Finance Group, championed the causes of schools, including our own.
McAuley House Family Mass is scheduled for 10.00a.m this Sunday 31 August.
School Cross Country ran as scheduled on 28 August. It was very well organised by Kakariki Team teachers and sports leaders. It was a successful event, with fantastic effort being displayed by all participants and fabulous team spirit and enthusiasm. Catholic Schools Cross Country is on 10 September; Pupuke Cross Country is on the 11th. More details will come out next week for the children involved.
Have a great weekend. Stay well.
