Something to think about!
“Why should my family think about 21st century learning?
Today’s students will graduate into a world where the demands of our professional, personal and public lives grow more complicated every year.
- An innovation and creativity-driven economy: They will enter a job market that rewards creativity, flexible thinking, on-the-job learning and comfort with technology.
- A more globally-connected world: Their classmates and co- workers may live in the same zip code or across the globe.
- Information overflow: We get dizzying amounts of information every day. It can be hard to figure out what is reliable and how to use it.
- An expanded civic life: citizens are active in physical communities, online and through social media, getting involved in local politics as well as global initiatives.
Instead of slowing down, these trends are gaining momentum. As a result, our students need to be more globally aware, better able to navigate the digital world and more engaged as 21st century citizens.
Parents, families and schools play a key role by supporting the development of 21st Century Skills and 21st century citizenship. Providing your child with a 21st century education will give them opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge and mindsets they need to be successful in college, career and life.”

Generosity
This week at prayers, the Year 6 students reminded us of the importance of generosity.
- Mufti Mania Day today, is one opportunity we take every year, along with Catholic Schools throughout NZ, to support areas in the South Pacific affected by poverty, disaster or climate change. Since 2007, the New Zealand Catholic Principals’ Association have partnered with Caritas to support a project. Over the last decade, Catholic Schools across New Zealand have raised over $100,000 through Mufti Mania, to support schools in the Pacific.
All funds raised in 2015 will go towards new school resources for two Catholic Primary Schools in Auki, Malaita Province, Solomon Islands. St John’s Dala Primary is a school of 420 students and Takwa Primary School is a small school consisting of 27 students.
Both schools have indicated there is a real need for the following resources to help enhance the teaching and learning in their schools: basic stationery supplies, dictionaries, health guides, reading books, bibles, netballs, soccer balls, volleyballs and nets.
When we join together and give generously we can make a huge difference for the teachers and students in Auki! Today, our school raised $740.00 Thank you for this great response! To this will be added funds from the weekly mission collection so that a $1000.00 will be donated to Caritas for this project. A magnificent effort!
- BOOKS FOR KIRIBATI Mrs Thomson has been making sure that books and resources that we are not using, are going to a good home. Through Clare Farrant, at McConnell Dowell, books and resources are going to Kiribati.
“Kiribati is one of the poorest countries on the planet, in economic terms, and one of the world’s most vulnerable nations in terms of rising sea levels. Much is being done to help the people there. McConnell Dowell is helping by organising the McConnell Dowell Big Book Drive and sending a container of books to Kiribati. We are collecting books and resources for local schools and the National Library.” (Extract from Constructors News 3rd edition June 2015)
“Many thanks again for the books. They are over in our plant yard with the others all stacked and ready to go in the container.” Clare Farrant
Weekly Mission Collection This term, $1405.90 was raised by classes in their weekly mission collections. Thank you again for your generosity. These funds are going to Nepal and the Solomon Islands.

A year 4 boy said, “We have been doing worksheets about church and the ministry.” He really enjoyed doing the tasks and finding out what Jesus did for others.
A Year 4 girl who had been doing RE with the boy we interviewed before her said, “I am enjoying RE and the class is sort of participating and contributing. I am trying my best and so are all the people in the class.”
