St Joseph’s Catholic School Takapuna Learning Model

TO KNOW                 What Do I Know?               What Do I Need to Know?

TO DO                       What Do I Need To Do?   How Do I Do This?

TO USE                      How will I Use What I Am Learning?

What Other Ways Can I Use It?

Cake and Cookies Stalls were organised by Kakariki Team to support the Moko Charitable Trust, started by Dr Lance O’Sullivan and his wife Tracy, in Northland, to increase health knowledge and care for the children and their families in the region. Thank you to all parents who provided food for the stalls and also spending money.  The O’Sullivan family have been and continue to be very generous in terms of what they do for the community. Recently, they have had the devastating news that their 6 year old, Lance Junior, has been diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. Let us keep them in our prayers.

The email below is in response to the fundraising we are doing.

 Kia ora Erika

What an amazing gesture.

Thank you so much for emailing me and for letting me know about the wonderful support from the children of SJ.

Tracy and I would love to come and see you all the next time we are in AKLD.

Nga mihi

Snippets of Learning from around the school – Art, Inquiry, Maths, Mandarin  – creating, challenging, thinking, listening, collaborating, problem solving, making use of inside and outside spaces, helping each other. Teaching and learning in schools continues to develop. For most of the adults in your children’s’ family and circle of friends, the model of teaching and learning was, to put it simply, that the student was an empty vessel to be filled with knowledge by the various teachers he or she encountered. Today you may hear your child talking about working towards becoming a trusted learner, gaining a full licence, being an active or passive learner. If you ask them what that means, you will discover that he/she has quite a sound grasp of what it means to be a learner. Things are moving away from doing what the teacher tells you to do to taking ownership of your own learning. Five year olds are learning to reflect on their learning, identifying what was difficult, what was easy, how they might solve a problem.
