PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents / Caregivers

The Term is well underway. Thank you to all of the families that have come along for the Parent/ Teacher/ Student conferences. It has been great to connect with you.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior for God has looked with favor on His lowly servant”  (Luke 1:46-48).

This Monday we will celebrate the Assumption of Mary at school and in the Liturgical year. Mary was a role model for mothers and this is a time for us to reflect on the amazing role that mothers play in our lives. It is also a time to remember that when we answer God’s call in our lives, and work on acts of service, we are mirroring the life of Mary.

This week we want to share our gratitude for the mothers and significant people in our community that are mirrors of Mary to us all. Thank you for the mahi you do.

The following topics will be covered in this weeks Principal’s message:

  • STRIKE Percussion Performance
  • General Notices
  • Board of Trustees Election
  • PTA Quiz Night Fundraiser
  • Feast of the Assumption
  • Community Notices

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at principal@sj.school.nz

Kind regards

Laura Bateman & Natasha Luxford

Co-Acting Principals (Term 3)

STRIKE PERCUSSION PERFORMANCE

Title: Strike Music Show

Reporter: Janine

Yesterday morning we were treated to a music show by a company called Strike. We were lucky to enjoy lovely, sunny weather while three people from Wellington were playing the drums, and a tropical instrument called a Marimba,’ – like a xylophone, but bigger. What a lovely, melodious sound it made.

They have traveled to a lot of countries just to play in schools. The girl was a violinist and another band member was a well known DJ in Berlin, Germany. As the entire school watched, loud beats and instruments struck, while some people were covering their ears, since it was so loud and noisy! Strike played some songs while the kids were clapping and cheering along. I saw quite a few teachers getting into the rhythms too!

Strike then  hosted a ‘Teachers’ Drum Battle,’ where 2 teachers were chosen to come up and play some drums. The floor felt like it was struck by lightning! After the Teachers’ Drum Battle, the students were raising their hands to play some of the instruments, just the same as the Teachers’ Drum Battle. Well done Mr O’Connor and Miss Scott!

While the song was going, the children were clapping along with the beats, stomping their feet on the ground. The beats were changing quickly, as people felt like their ears were about to explode

It felt like we were in a concert on stage – they also made some beats with soda bottles –  it was like re-making the cup song and it gave us ideas of how to make our own rhythms.

After all the songs, the students were raising their hands to ask questions and the musicians answered the ones that they could. They told us that they practiced everyday to ace it and  perfect their music. Everyone enjoyed watching.  Thank you STRIKE. We had a great time!

GENERAL NOTICES

A gentle reminder that Pokemon cards and other cards that children can ‘swap’ with each other need to stay at home please.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES ELECTION

MySchool Election is in the process of sending out voting papers by post, which will include a statement from each candidate introducing themselves. Please keep an eye on your mailbox for these papers and instructions regarding how to return the forms.

We encourage everyone to review, vote and return their voting papers so that you can have a say on who will help govern our school for the next three years.

Many thanks.

This is a day that we remember when Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken into heaven, body and soul, after she died. Mary’s life and death are a wonderful example of praise and thanksgiving to God.We will be taking part in Team/Pod Liturgies to share this important occasion.
