ST JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC
SCHOOL
TAKAPUNA
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Kia ora parents
The sun is out! Long may it last.
Next Friday, the teachers are having a Ministry of Education Teacher Only Day. The school will be CLOSED Friday 17 November. The MOE requires schools throughout NZ to have two teacher only days in each of 2023 and 2024. These days are for teachers to carry out professional development on the Refreshed NZ Curriculum. Thank you to parents for making the necessary arrangements for their child to be cared for on this day.
Next Monday, Le Bron will be Principal for the Day. He and his Associate Principal will be greeting the students and parents in the morning; going around and introducing themselves to the Home Groups; and viewing students’ learning, with a box of stickers. The rest of the day is theirs to decide what they would like to do.
This week saw Joseph as Principal for the Day. He and Lucca (Associate Principal) enjoyed the meeting and greeting, visiting the Home Groups, watching sport on TV, going out for lunch and playing basketball with their friends.
Our thanks to their parents and the many parents who participated in the Music Quiz Evening, bidding on the auction items. Funds raised through these events, run by the PTFA, provide our students with wonderful resources like the new junior playground, the painted games on the asphalt and playground shade sails.
Next week is the final week of the Jellybeans music programme. This was another PTFA initiative. The children have really enjoyed participating in this programme this term and over the last couple of years.
On Tuesday next week, the PTFA are meeting at 7.15 pm in the staffroom to plan next year’s fundraisers. Please come and join them, and share your ideas. They are a very friendly group and as it is their last meeting for the year, there will be wine and nibbles to celebrate all the achievements for 2023.
Have a lovely weekend!
Take care,
Alister Bridgman

UPCOMING PTFA MEETING
BYOD DEVICES
This year, we moved to only having student owned devices, as an option, for Year 5/6 students. We have sufficient school devices for the Year 3/4 students programme and we no longer require Year 3/4 students to bring their own devices.
Year 5/6 students are welcome to bring a device. It is not compulsory as we have school devices available for students. The personal devices students bring to school are laptops/tablets that are compatible with the Google Suite. These guidelines set out some criteria for you.
Just to reiterate, personal laptops/tablets are OPTIONAL in Year 5/6. They are NOT required in Year 3/4.
THANK YOU TO THE PTFA!
A massive thank you to our St Joseph’s PTfA that donated money towards our Year 6 camp at Carey Park. This money went towards the campfire evening, which will be treasured by all for years to come. Thank you for your generosity, we really appreciate it.

SPORTS PHOTOS
On Tuesday next week, our sports photos will be taking place. If your child has played in a school sports team this year, they will be called to the hall when it is their team’s photo. All children need to be wearing their correct St Joseph’s School Uniform (not the sports uniform).
