ST JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC
SCHOOL
TAKAPUNA
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Parents,
Next week sees our Parish Saints day. St Joseph’s day is Tuesday, 19th March. Pope Pius IX declared Joseph both a patron and protector of the church. As a school we celebrate St Joseph, patron saint of the worker, on the 1st of May. Teams will be having liturgies over the coming week celebrating St Joseph.
Thank you to all the parents who have put their child’s name forward for the parish Good Friday liturgy of the Stations of the Cross. We have a significant number of children participating in this very special liturgy. We are unable to take any more, however families are welcome to attend the liturgy at our church on Friday, 29th March, at 10am.
The day before, Thursday, 28th March, the school will be putting on its Stations of the Cross liturgy in our school hall. This will begin at 2pm. All whanau are welcome to join the children and staff.
While we appreciate that families like to get away early for long weekends, we ask that you consider keeping your child at school till 2.50 pm on Thursday the 28th March in order they can participate in this liturgy.
If you are intending to travel on Thursday please keep your child at home and notify the school on the school app of their absence due to ‘holiday’.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Take care,
Alister Bridgman
Tumuaki

2024 COLOUR FUN RUN
YEAR 5 & 6 CRICKET TOURNAMENT
The Year 5/6 Boys Super 8 Tournament was held at Takapuna Cricket Club earlier this week. Well done to the lads who represented St Joseph’s – you did the school proud.
KAKAPO TEAM PLANTING
The tamariki in Team Kakapo have been learning about Katiakitanga (stewardship) as part of our RE learning through Caritas. We put this learning into action by learning about plants, growing them and taking care of them. Mrs McEwan (Miss Mcewan’s mum) helped the tamariki to each grow their own pea plant and we have been helping Mr Kelly to grow vegetables for our school’s vegetable garden. We will be taking turns throughout the term to look after our vegetable garden – we are looking forward to seeing all of our plants grow!
SHORE-TO-SHORE FUN RUN/WALK
Harcourts Cooper and Co Shore to Shore is North Shore’s favourite 5km fun run/ walk, with approximately 5,000 participants entering every year.
The event starts at Takapuna Grammar School, heads along both the picturesque Takapuna and Milford beaches and ends at Milford Reserve and brings together the North Shore community to support local schools by providing them with an opportunity to raise funds for much-needed sports gear.
A great opportunity for Friends, Parents, Aunties, Uncles and Grandparents to get together, dress up, and join us for the fun!
2024 promises to be another great event with plenty of awesome costumes and spot prizes up for grabs!!
