BREAKERS BASKETBALL

St Joe’s Rockets Years 1/2

The St Joe’s Rockets Basketball team has seen our Year 2’s – Cody, Polo, Riley & Kirsten – welcome our Year 1’s – Caleb, Astro & Leo – to the Breakers league with great leadership. Each week, the more experienced members of our team have shown strong basketball skills on the court. However, as the season progressed the most valuable skill – teamwork – has come to define their performance. The rookie players have used their courage and determination to put the ball skills taught by coach Tevita to valuable use. As a result, they are winning more turnovers and getting more ball time. We are so proud of the way this team enjoys their time on court together, and cannot wait for semester two!

St Joe’s Lakers – Year 4

After a nervous start, 8 minutes into the game, our opponents scored the first goal of the game. Not to be disheartened, 2 minutes later, we got a penalty shot, which Charles took and it was nothing but net! 2-2! The game carried on swaying from one end to the other. All of our team put their heart and soul into the game. With just under 3 minutes to go, we were trailing by 8 – 4. But then the ball fell in our favour and we were back on track – 8 – 6. A quick turnover, and it was all drawn, with 8 points each, with less than a minute on the clock. Mekeia got hold of the ball & dribbled all the way down the court!! But she was fouled just under the hoop. This is it – our last penalty shot. It was a tense moment & the pressure was on. The ball sailed through the air but hit the ring and bounced off. Luckily Liam D was ready for the rebound. In the dying seconds, he took a shot at goal… and whoosh, the ball sailed in = 10-8 to St Joes as the final whistle blew! Great effort by all the team.. their determination & patience paid off! Winners !!! We are all so proud of them.

St Joe’s Celtics – Year 3

Our basketball team is called St. Joe’s Celtics, playing in the Year 3/4 Junior Breakers League. My teammates are Miro, Polo, Jose, Ryker, Ethan and Hudson. We are getting better every week: talking to each other, playing defense, moving the ball and working as one team during the games.

Today we played in the finals game. Guess what? We almost won the championship! The score was 26-30. We did not lose, we just ran out of time. I am very proud of our team since we took 2nd place! Thank you to Coach T and all our parents for always supporting our team.

NORTH HARBOUR BASKETBALL

St Jo’s Raptors – Year 4

Here is an image of our basketball team – the Raptors, missing one player – with their coach at North Harbour. Their game has really improved over the season and they’ve built a lovely team dynamic and friendship during the time. They came out middle of the table but really gave it everything they’ve got and we are so proud of them!

St Jo’s Knicks – Years 2-4
What an epic season from our players! As the season went on, the kids built great chemistry and played together as a team. Each and every one of them improved with every game. After a nail-biting finals, they won their grade and achieved an unbeaten season! We had great support from their families the whole season and we are very proud of them all!

St Jo’s Heat – Years 5/6
Fantastic effort from the whole team this season! It was a hard-fought season but the children improved and developed with each game they played. They played against some experienced/older kids in their grade and rose to each challenge they faced. Amazing support all season from families and we are all very proud of them!

St. Joe’s Phoenix – Year 4

We are thrilled to announce the outstanding achievement of our Year 4 all-girls basketball team!
The Phoenix team recently competed with great determination and sportsmanship to secure the silver medal in a Year 5/6 girls league which is a level above their year group.

Throughout the season, these young athletes have shown remarkable teamwork, resilience and passion for the game. Their dedication during practices and spirited performances during games have truly paid off, earning them well-deserved recognition. As coaches, parents and supporters, we couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and achievement. This accomplishment not only highlights their skills on the court; but also their ability to inspire each other with perseverance and positive attitudes. Congratulations on this impressive feat!

SPLASH POLO/FLIPPA BALL

St Jo’s Orcas – Years 2/3

The Yr2/3 Mighty Orcas had a great competition with a stellar win over Kristin, taking out 5th place for the term. All of the Year 2 newbies have improved so much and are working well together in the pool. Special mention of our MVPs for the term… Elliot and Tilly!

St Joe’s Sharks – Year 6

Term 2 was an exciting term for the St Joe’s Sharks, with huge individual player and team-play development across the whole team. The Sharks are really starting to play/understand the wonderful game of water polo; and the team is enjoying every game together. This was a great term, with the Sharks narrowly missing out on playing for the top spot in their grade; but taking out a convincing win for third place. We are looking forward to terms 3 & 4′, as the Sharks aim to take out our their grade in the kids’ final year at St Joes. We hope all players return for term three to keep the momentum going! Go SHARKS!!

St Joe’s Swordfish – Year 4

Term 2 for the Year 4 St Joe’s Swordfish Flippa Ball team has been one of growth and excitement. The team has not only improved their skills in the water. but also learned valuable lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship. Their hard work and dedication has paid off, leading to several impressive victories. We are incredibly proud of their progress and look forward to more successes in Term 3.

St Joe’s Dolphins

The Dolphins were a new team at the start of term and have come together amazingly well as a team. It has been awesome watching their games and their ability to grow their skills each week. Keep it up team!

RIPPA RUGBY

The Rippa tournament went really well, with our Year 5 team playing against mixed teams of Year 5/6 and Year 6 teams. We played with confidence and showed great ability to play the ball around and make space. We had some wins, a draw and a loss. The team was super excited to be there and enjoyed every minute of the day with their mates!

TAEKWONDO

Synchronized Under Pressure

Finally the day arrived, it was June 2nd. Kendra, Caierah and I were confident/excited/nervous all at the same time, for the World Taekwondo NZ tournament! We were going to perform as a group in front of four judges and a huge crowd for the Poomsae competition. What we had to do was complete two Poomsae or patterns: Taegeuk 1 and Taegeuk 2. It had attack and defence forms such as, kicks, punches, and blocks. We had to work “in synch” together as a team. Our preparation and weeks of practice paid off!  In the end, the judges announced that our team had won a gold medal! Also, Noah from HG6 and his team won too! It was worth it!
