RIPPA RUGBY TOURNAMENT
A very successful tournament was enjoyed by our players yesterday at the local tournament will all teams winning all matches. They won on the behaviour and attitude side too, with Paula and Ingrid being impressed with both, even if some older students started the day over-spirited and needed some wise counselling from Paula to get them back on track!

Kereru Team’s Charity Expo
Review: by Kriya
Every Saturday after swimming we always pass through the *Hospice at Takapuna.
I’ve always wanted to know what it would feel like to work in a charity shop. It was as if my teacher read my mind on the weekend and on Monday when I went to school, we were informed about the charity expo we were going to put up. I was very elated at this thought.
Her note was that we had to create a charity. We could either work by ourselves or buddy up with a friend or a group.
I decided to buddy up with Angela and we researched a name for our charity. We decided to name our charity “Feeding Auckland”.
Feeding Auckland’s motto is “no child should go hungry”. Our reasoning was we wouldn’t want to be in the same situation as kids who have to go bed on an empty stomach. Just imagine if you couldn’t afford enough to buy some food, that’s when Feeding Auckland comes in. It’s time for a change as children are the future.
There was a lot of buzz about the Charity EXPO. Angela and I worked on our presentation. We created flyers, designed our visiting cards, bookmarks wanting to promote our charity to as many parents thus making our charity a success.
Two days before the Expo my teachers sent email invitations out to all the parents that our charity EXPO was going to be held on the 12 of August Friday between 11am – 12.15 pm.
The big day arrived. We were excited as well as nervous as we were going to be asked questions about our charity. We knew we had to create an impression so that we could gather as many tokens as possible.
Kereru team children had been trying to promote their charities to all the other team’s parents as well as teachers. We had a mad rush of people wanting our bookmarks and business cards. We hardly had any time for a break to visit other charity stalls. Halfway through the Expo, Zack Fowler’s mum gave us some feedback on our charity. She said that we were absolutely right that it’s not fair that children don’t get food.
In the end it was a success for everyone as all of us worked hard on our charities. Angela and I couldn’t be happier because we are trying to help poor children. We got 41 tokens all together. If I was a visitor I would give a 4 out of 5 rating to our EXPO. I asked myself would I have done anything else different. My answer was No.
*Hospice is an organization that offers practical, physical, emotional and spiritual assistance, help and support to people who are at end of life.
Rafi’s write up about the expo:
Six days have passed since the team Kereru charity expo, we made slides, posters and more but really it was brilliant.
Yana’s write up about the expo:
We were proud of what had achieved and created. When Expo day came we had everything we needed. My group and I were nervous but the important thing for me was that we enjoyed it and had fun.
All the best for our Rippa Rugby Team who are representing North Harbour at the National Tournament in Wellington this Monday and Tuesday!
Mrs Julie Kelly is on the mend and champing at the bit to return to work. However, she still needs to recuperate and we are hoping to see her back on board on Monday 29th.
Prayers are asked for the Board of Trustees as they work together on the Principal Appointment process.
Have a lovely weekend.
Ka kite ano!
