Keeping Ourselves Safe
Written By: Janine Orjalo,
School Reporter, Year 6, Kakariki Team
These past few weeks we have been learning about Keeping Ourselves Safe. This includes many areas like, on the road, friends, strangers, devices, and many more. The three main focus areas are being confident, being safe, and abuse. Most students have been taking home some sheets that you work on with them.
This is a chance to get them to practise actions that will help them to keep safe in the general world. I think we should continue with activities like this at least once a week. I feel this has helped us a lot especially with Constable Murray coming to help us out. I hope we will all remember what we have learnt and apply these to our lives and remember to keep safe.
Have a great holiday everyone!!
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
Thank you very much to Breanna Viskovich, who co-ordinated this event. It ran very smoothly and the donations from sponsorship are still coming in.
In the lead up to the event, skipping has been part of the PE and Fitness programmes.
Religious Education
The first focus for Term 4 is Communion of Saints.
Our school Mass will be on November 1st, Feast of All Saints.
At home, talk about the saints’ names you have in your family. Find out some more about those saints.
Find out more about our patron St Joseph.
Ask the grandparents to tell you about their favourite saints.
Lifeline wins vote for St Joseph’s Market Day!
The Years 5 and 6 children of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Takapuna, Auckland, held a market day and raised $1,700!
They took a vote on which organisation to donate the funds to and Lifeline won by an overwhelming majority.
Here’s what Year 6 student, Skyler Anderson, had to say about choosing Lifeline…
“I came up with Lifeline because when I researched about it I saw that in a couple of months they would be closing down, unless they got a lot of donations. I was really inspired by their work because they helped people who had problems with their life. I think that Lifeline is changing the world by helping those who need assistance.”
Thanks St Joseph’s!
A Report on the Rippa Semi-Finals
by Paula Vitali, our Sports Co-ordinator
“I went up to Rippa today to help set up the new school tent with Justin Bosley… It is great. Very big and warm, although not an instant pop up! But good for all day event.
The boys got through to the finals winning all games but the girls won, draw, draw and lost to Target Road.
Maia was an absolute stand out being the sweeping last line of defence, more often than not, she would successfully rip the tag and often save a try. She put her body on the line as she always gives 100% diving for tries…. Enjoyable to watch!
Boys did their Haka for the first and last games and it was received well by the opposition standing arm in arm to face them. Added some cultural diversity to Team St Josephs!
They played impressively stringing passes together with most players, if not all, scoring tries. Logan scored twice and he had a grin from ear to ear after each. It’s nice to see the emotion after scoring that you don’t always get from the kids who do it all too easily!
Natalie was a great coach and she gave them clear, direct guidance that they took on board.
Now we look forward to Sunday’s showdown! “
GOOD LUCK TO the St Joseph’s Boys’ Team!
Have a safe and lovely holiday.
God bless!
Phil
