Lake Pupuke Cluster Cross Country 2016
The Lake Pupuke Cluster Cross Country is a competition between four primary schools. St Joseph’s, Takapuna, Milford and Forrest Hill.
The sun was shining and it was a great day for a Cross Country. There is flat ground, but numerous hills and slopes on the course. The year 4’s run the course twice and the year 5 & 6 go around three times! So the race was tough and challenging for everyone I’m sure and all competitors pushed to their limits but like in all races, some people do better than others.
The podium places are: Year 4 boys Mattie Dalton 3rd.
Year 5 girls, Rosemary Wilson 3rd, Luca Bosley 2nd and Maia Lythe 1st.
Year 5 boys, Fergus Maling 3rd.
Year 6 girls, Sylvie Taylor 2nd.
Year 6 boys, Charlie Maling 3rd, Keegan Kelly 2nd and James Marshall 1st.
In the end, everyone tried their best and had heaps of fun.

Catholic Schools Chess Competition
A report from Jorja Smith Kakariki Team

The Intermediate Team came 6th. Nadia won all her games and came 1st for Board 1!
RIPPA RUGBY
2016 Rippa Rugby at St Joseph’s
What a year we have had!! First our mixed Rippa team did us proud coming 5th in Wellington. In our local Takapuna tournament we had success in both girls and boys teams coming top of Years 3/4 and Years 5/6 grades. However, it is only year 5/6 that play to compete in the big arena at QBE Stadium and OUR year 5/6 boys’ team are undoubtedly the best on the Shore!
They have won and won again and again… I thought Rippa was never going to end!!
The finals were in drizzly, wet and very slippery conditions, making the game more challenging and harder to show case some of their talent that we had seen leading up to the final. They were again the better team on the day. St Joseph’s 6 and Marina View 4.
St Joseph’s won the cup in 2015, so we are proud of our 2016 team to back it up again and hold on to the cup for another year!
I never doubted you for a minute boys!!

A report on the great match by Keegan Kelly and Jack Macnaught from Kakariki Team
Sunday evening
The crowd roared as we waited in the tunnel. Our opponents were a tough team called Marina View. The grass was drenched in water as we ran on to field, with the crowd screaming our names. Nervous and excited emotions rushed through all of our heads as we waited to hear the horn to go. Then it went. We tapped off and started playing the hardest game in our life.
Later, Noah broke through their defence and scored a great try. Everyone was slipping over from the never ending torrential rain. They struck back with a diving try. Back and forth we battled the whole half.
At halftime we had an encouraging team talk. We ran back out on the field seeing ourselves on the screen. We were winning 4-2. Charlie got a great intercept with a diving try, to top it off with a three point advantage over the other team. Their fullback broke through our defence but was no match for Keegan’s speed. He ran after their fullback, ripped him clean but got penalised for a dangerous rip. 1 minute to go! The score was 5-4 to us.
Quin stepped a player and scored a beautiful try to win the cup. But with 45 seconds to go their fullback went on a run and stepped Logan but that was no match for Logan, as he cleanly ripped him with ease. The whistle blew and we all gave a sigh of relief.
We got in a line and held up the cup knowing that we won. The crowd screamed as Keegan the captain of that match said a few words of thanks for our opposition, the refs, Natalie and our supporters. The cameraman called us over for a picture with the cup. The final score was 6-4 to us.
WE WON!
Prayers are asked for Cate Dunne and family. Her father, Graeme Armstrong died on Thursday 20th. Eternal rest grant to him O Lord.
Have a lovely and safe Labour Weekend!
God bless!
