SCHOOL REPORTERS

 

An Nyung Miss Ahn By Daniel C and Ryan B

 

Energetic, enthusiastic and always smiling, are just a few of the great qualities the Kakapo team love about Miss Ahn. To find out more about this fun teacher, who joined our school this year, we had a friendly chat with her earlier this week.

 

Seran Ahn was born in South Korea. When she and her older sister were young, her family moved to New Zealand and made a new home on the North Shore. Our talented new teacher is multilingual and can also speak Mandarin and Korean. An Nyung is how you say hello in Korean.

 

As a child Miss Ahn went to Forrest Hill and Murrays Bay Primary School, she then went onto Murrays Bay Intermediate followed by Rangitoto College. While she was at school her favourite subjects were Maths and Music, she especially enjoyed playing the Trombone. Her passion for learning and love of children led her in the direction of becoming a teacher.

 

In her spare time, Miss Ahn loves reading, in particular she enjoys fantasy novels, her favourite series being Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl. When asked what her favourite motivational quote is, she told us she was inspired by Walt Disney’s famous saying “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them”.

 

Mrs Wannenburg and Miss Viskovich enjoy working and cooperating with Miss Ahn in the Kakapo team and really appreciate her help in the classroom and knowledge when it comes to technology. Meera and Emma, two of Miss Ahn’s Home Group 8 students, also had a long, long list of things they like most about their teacher. A few of these included; makes maths fun, challenges our brain, helps us write exciting similes and encourages us lots.

 

Although we are not Hogwarts, hopefully Miss Ahn will find us just as magical as the year goes on, we wish you a warm welcome to our school.

 

Turning up the Cooperation – By Daniel C

 

As part of our school’s learning focus on cooperation this term the Kakapo team recently went on a school trip to the Auckland Museum.

 

At the Museum there was a special exhibition on New Zealand music called Volume: Making Music in Aotearoa. The children got to step into a recording studio, spin the decks as a DJ and learn to play instruments as part of a band. This hands-on experience showed the Kakapo team how cooperation is a vital part of making music and gave them a very fun experience.  

 

There were also many other areas in the Museum that showed how people need to cooperate, like trying to imagine how the 100 warriors would work together to power the giant Maori War Canoe. Another highlight was spotting the Kakapo in the Native Birds exhibit.

 

As a result of the trip the children are now researching and producing work to show their learning about co-operation.

Photo Orders – HG1 to 12

Your child has been given an ‘Online Shoot Key’ slip as their school photos are now uploaded and ready to view online. In order for you to get them delivered free to school they must be ordered before ‘midnight’ on July 2^nd. The online system works off each student’s name giving them an individual Shot Key to view and order their photographs.

Please not the office does not have a copy of your child’s ‘Online Shoot Key’.
