ST JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC
SCHOOL
TAKAPUNA
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Kia ora whanau,
This week is Māori Language Week -Te wiki o Te Reo Māori. It has been a week where we have been challenged to work together to learn some more Te Reo to preserve this taonga (treasure) in our motu (country). What word or phrases has your child taught you this week?
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” Today’s online school prayers were focussed on the Mercy Value of Pono – Truth and the importance of being honest. If we make sure that we are honest in the small things, then we can be sure that we will be honest with the big things. We encourage all of our St Joseph’s tamariki to be honest and truthful in their daily lives.
The following topics will be covered in this weeks Principal’s message:
- Cans for Christmas appeal
- Mercy Week
- Kakapo Gymnastics Trip
- ICAS Competitions
- Kakariki Market Day
- 2022-2025 Board of Trustees
- Term 4 Sports Registrations
- Yummy Stickers Promotion – Final push!
- PTFA: Second Hand Uniforms
- Community Notices

CANS FOR CHRISTMAS
Thank you to all the families and students who have been supporting our Cans for Christmas appeal – so far we have brought in 574 cans. This is an awesome effort!! Here’s a challenge for us all: can we bring in more than 700 by the end of the term. Next Friday, September 23rd, is our BIG CAN DAY.
MERCY WEEK
During the last week of Term 3 we will be looking at the Sisters of Mercy and the rich history and foundation they have given to our school. We are connected to them through our outreach and also through our prayers.
Mercy Day – September 24
On the 24th of September every year, Sisters of Mercy and their friends around the world celebrate Mercy Day. This is the day on which Catherine McAuley first opened the House of Mercy in Ireland and dedicated it to Our Lady of Mercy. This is a day to celebrate all the wonderful work Sisters of Mercy and their friends do around the world.
KAKAPO GYMNASTICS TRIP
North Harbour Gym Trip
By Indi, Katie, Azariah, Izzy and Oliver
Beep, beep! Ropu Rua climbed onto the double decker bus to the North Harbour Gym. We couldn’t wait to have a turn to sit up the top!
When we arrived, we got into groups. There were seven stations we could participate in. They were the trampoline, ninja course, beam, trampoline run , rhythmic and vaults. There was a different teacher everywhere we went. They were all very friendly and showed us Manaakitanga.
We started off playing ‘Stuck in the Mud’ with the sponges. It was fun and tricky. After that, we went to our first stations. Group 1 went to the trampoline run; Group 2 went to rhythmic; Group 3 went to bunny hops; Group 4 went to vaults; Group 5 went to trampoline; Group 6 went to the ninja course; and Group 7 went to the beam.
Every 15 minutes, we switched stations. Some stations were better than others, but we liked them all.
Eventually, our time came to an end and we had to go back to school. We were EXHAUSTED!
It was so nice to be able to escape school for the afternoon.

The Kakariki students are very excited to bring Market Day back to St Joseph’s for 2022! This will be held on Friday 30th September (the last day of Term 3) from 10:30am – 12:30pm.
The students are working in groups to plan and create market stalls based on a service or a product. They are following a process that involves creating a proposal, developing a business plan, using budgeting skills and teamwork.
We welcome our school community to come and check out the stalls and help us to raise money for our chosen charities.
