ST JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC
SCHOOL
TAKAPUNA
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Parents
Thank you to the whanau who joined the children for the Stations of the Cross liturgy. A truly special celebration that leads us into our Easter celebrations. Tomorrow morning, 10 am, our school act out the Stations of the Cross for the parish. All families are welcome to attend this liturgy in our Parish church.
Wednesday next week at 2 pm we will be continuing our Easter story at our school’s Easter Liturgy being held in our school hall. Again all families are welcome to join the children for this liturgy.
All NZ schools are closed on Tuesday 2 April. While it is not a public holiday it is a NZ school holiday.
Have you booked the family in for the Shore to Shore event Sunday 7 April? It is not to0 late.
We have had a complaint regarding parents who are driving up Dominion St to drop off/collect students and talking on their cellphones. This is against the law. More importantly it is a safety issue for students and parents, in what is a congested street before and after school. Please can parents stay off their cellphones when dropping off/collecting their child.
We wish you all Blessed Easter
Take care

HOLY WEEK
Reflections on Holy Week by Jack HG 3
… Jerusalem is called the Holy City because that is where Jesus did miracles
… A palm frond is a leaf from a palm tree. People laid them on the ground to make the person who’s coming feel special
… Jesus didn’t ride on a posh horse because he didn’t want the people to feel different
… The elders were feeling frustrated because Jesus was getting all the attention
… Judas felt guilty because he betrayed Jesus
… Jesus was praying because he was going to be put to death
… Jesus felt scared because he was going to be arrested
… Peter denied knowing Jesus because he was scared the leaders would punish Peter for knowing Jesus.
… Pontius Pilate let the crowd decide because he didn’t want the crowd to not like him
… They put a crown on his head because Jesus was a messiah
… I don’t think Jesus gave himself the name ‘King of the Jews’ because he wanted to be equal to the others
… He (Centurion) felt sad because he underestimated Jesus
WASHING OF THE FEET
John 13:3-17
3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
7 Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.”
Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”
9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”
10 Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” 11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.
12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
