PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Parents,
Today the funeral of Bishop Denis Browne was held in Hamilton. Bishop Browne was consecrated a Bishop in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Auckland in 1977. He served as Bishop of the Cook Islands and Niue until 1983. Bishop Browne became the tenth Bishop of Auckland in 1983. In 1994, he moved to Hamilton to be its second Bishop.
Bishop Browne was awarded the New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal; and in 2001 he was appointed as Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) for services to the community.
On the morning of Friday, 30th August, Kīingi Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero VII died. Kīingi Tūheitia, reigned as the Māori King of Aotearoa from 2006. His tangi was held at the Tūrangawaewae Marae where he lay in state for eight days. Kīingi Tūheitia was laid to rest on Taupiri Maunga in a grave with no headstone, an equal in death amongst others buried on the mountainside.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Just prior to Kīingi Tūheitia final journey up the Waikato River to Taupiri Maunga, a new monarch was appointed by leaders of tribes associated with the Kīngitanga. Nga wai hono i te po Paki, daughter of the late King, was announced as the new Māori Queen, Kuīni Ngā Wai hono i te po Paki.
Congratulations to our two Jump Jam teams who were placed 2nd and 3rd in the local competition held on Saturday. It was very exciting watching the different teams who were participating. Our parents and teachers were so excited when our teams performed (and so proud when the placings were announced)!. Well done Jump Jammers.
Have a lovely weekend.

JUMP JAM 2024
Jump Jam Competition by Izzy, HG3
On Saturday, 31st of August, the Beat Breakers and Rhythm Rebels went to Westlake Girls to compete in the “Auckland Strictly Jump Jam Competition”. We all went into the green room to change into our Jump Jam T-Shirts before the competition started. When we walked out into the auditorium, we saw all of our families, friends and teachers there to cheer us on.
The first team to perform were the Matakana Kung-fu Fighters. We waited with baited breath for our performance. We could feel it in the air. Then The Rhythm Rebels were taken to the side of the stage. The HPS (Hillsborough Primary School) Jelly Jump Jammers finished their performance. And then… 5,6,7,8… we started and the crowd loved us! We were dancing to the beat and the rhythm flowed through us. After we finished, we were asked some questions; then walked off stage. The Beat Breakers were 2 performances after us. They started and did awesome!
At the end we were all called to come up to the stage to give out the awards and placings. Rhythm Rebels got two Excellence Awards and the Beat Breakers got two Merit Awards. And then the placings began. “In third Place, St Joseph’s Beat Breakers!!!!” they announced. “In second place, St Joseph’s Rhythm Rebels!!!” “First, Hauraki School!!!” And In the very end, WE ARE GOING TO NATIONALS!!!
Jump Jam Competition by Indi, HG6
On the 31st of August, all of the Jump Jam kids went down to WGHS (Westlake Girls High School). We performed for the 2024 “Strictly Competition” and there were eight schools competing, such as three Matakana teams; Hauraki Primary School; Hillsborough Primary; two St Joseph’s teams; and Willow Park.
St Joseph’s Rhythm Rebels did the song ‘Freaks’ and St Joseph’s Beat Breakers did ‘Shake it Off.’
The placings were 3rd place – St Joseph’s Beat Breakers; and 2nd place – St Joseph’s Rhythm Rebels. First place was Hauraki School with ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’. The two St Joseph’s School teams are now into Nationals, as well as Hauraki School.
We wouldn’t be here if we didn’t have Mrs Lambert and Mrs Pienaar. This is the first year St Joseph’s have been to Jump Jam and we got into the top three. Thank you teachers for coming out to support us at Jump Jam!
