The focus of learning this term is CELEBRATE WHAKARI!
I WOULD ENCOURAGE OUR FAMILIES TO CELEBRATE LIFE EVERY DAY!
To celebrate, it helps if we are healthy and well in all parts of ourselves.
We need to build four strong walls for our Te Whare Tapa Whā in which our Whakahari Celebration can thrive,
healthy bodies (te taha tinana)
healthy minds (te taha hinengaro)
healthy spirits/souls (te taha wairua)
healthy family/social relationships (te taha whanau)
All four walls are necessary for strength, balance and well-being.
At St Joseph’s Catholic School Takapuna, in order to help us build our strength, balance and well-being we use:

Religious Education at this time of the year normally focuses on the
Communion of Saints Te Kotahitanga O Te Hunga Tapu
Overall, the aim is that children, throughout their time at primary school, will grow in understanding of the following:
1. the Communion of Saints as the Church – the living and the dead
2. whakapapa – genealogy as relating to te whanau a te Atua – family of God
3. Mary, Mother of God, her life and her significance in the life of the Church
4. the Saints and other inspiring people, including people in Aotearoa New Zealand
5. the sanctity of life, the mystery of death, loss and suffering from a hope-filled Christian perspective
6. the Christian belief in judgement and life after death and their relationship to the everyday choices people make.
The areas of special focus are:
Mary, Saints and Inspiring People, Life, Death & Christian Hope, Choices
Communion of Saints fits well with our whole school focus on the concept of Celebration.
Remember to celebrate special feast days, saints’ days and the weekly celebration of Mass on Sundays. The feasts of All Saints and All Souls will be celebrated here with a special liturgy on 2 November at the usual Monday morning prayer time in the Hall.
